'Lethal Cover-Up'

Published in the Jerusalem Post September 16, 2005

The Editors,
The Jerusalem Post

In her review of Helen Schary Motro's book, Judith Colp Rubin glosses over what has proved to be one of the most lethal media deceptions ever perpetrated. More than one thousand innocent Israelis have been murdered over the last five years as revenge for the supposed killing of the al-Dura child by Israeli soldiers on September 30, 2000.

Two articles published this month - one by David Gelernter in the Los Angeles Times and the other by Nidra Poller in Commentary Magazine - revisit the 55 seconds of footage that "documented" Muhammed al-Dura's shooting.

Both prove incontrovertibly that no shots were fired by the Israelis anywhere near the spot where the boy and his father sat. If indeed he died that day (and that is unclear), there is no dispute as to whose bullets killed him. Father and son were not, as Rubin wrote, "caught in a crossfire". For anyone curious as to what was actually going on that day in that area and why Palestinians were firing when no Israelis were firing at them, the Commentary article provides thorough - and mind-blowing - answers.

Rubin writes that "Motro is not interested in getting into that debate". And no wonder. Publicizing the hoax that was perpetrated on the world that day would deliver the Palestinians a knock-out PR blow. We are talking blood libel, theatre, deceit and cover-up on a scale that far surpasses the "Jenin massacre" canard. Motro and her left-wing buddies would prefer to continue, heads in the sand, to write Israel off as "jingoist and militaristic".

She refers to herself, melodramatically, as a "casualty of the occupation and the Intifada it caused." If there was any single cause for this Intifada, it was that Al-Dura footage. And if anybody is a casualty, it is not Motro. It is my daughter Malki and the hundreds of other precious victims like her.

Yours faithfully,
Frimet Roth
