To give when you love: The 2011 EZRA memorial charity bazaar

Every year, the graduating group at the Ramot (Jerusalem) branch of the Israeli youth organization EZRA holds a charity bazaar in memory of Malki Roth and Michal Raziel Z"L, and in support of Keren Malki. This year's - the ninth - took place at the usual location - the playground located next to the EZRA branch in Ramot on the day after Tisha B'Av, Wednesday 10th August 2011 starting in the afternoon and continuing well into the night. This year marked the ten year anniversary of the Sbarro massacre in the heart of Jerusalem.

Under the name Latet K'she'ata Ohev (Hebrew for "To give when you love"), this upbeat annual event attracts families from all over Jerusalem, and especially from Ramot where many personally knew the girls. With its large attendance and great spirit, the EZRA bazaar commemorates Malki's and Michal's legacy of giving and helping others -- and is always great fun.

Michal and Malki grew up in Ramot and were active in EZRA, both becoming group leaders at the age of fifteen. Their friends initiated the tradition of the bazaar in 2002, with all proceeds going to worthy causes.

Nearly a thousand people attended the 2011 event. Organized by each year's oldest age group of the EZRA Ramot branch, it offered a colorful melange of booths, arts and crafts stands, street shows and professional performers (who typically volunteer their time for the event). The enthusiastic organizing committee was headed this year by EZRA voluntary youth leaders Sarah and Elyasaf.

(A second charity bazaar, held in the Jerusalem suburb of Maale Adumim where Malki served as an EZRA youth leader, took place at the same time. Our congratulations and thanks to the organizers, and our regrets that so far we have no photos of that event.)
