Intrepid climbers
On 25 August 2011, an intrepid group of
13 climbers will be setting off overseas to climb Africa’s highest
peak , Mount Kilimanjaro, not only to prove that they can do it, but
also to raise important funds for Keren Malki, to support its work
on behalf of children in Israel who have special needs.
You can “get behind them”, and you won’t
even have to climb a mountain!
This amazing group of doctors, dentists,
lawyers and business people are planning to push their physical and
mental boundaries, and in the process they hope to galvanize
community awareness about the work of Keren Malki. The group
includes, Michael Gordon, Mark Franks, Jeff Lipshatz, Brian Wiener,
Henry Debinski, Robert Nossbaum, David Parkes, Lawrence Cher, Allan
Lotzoff, Abe Winter, Jerry Belleli and others.
All climbers will be funding their own
expenses, and all funds raised will go to Keren Malki.
A worthy cause
Keren Malki was established in Jerusalem
in 2001. It provides assistance to the families of children with
special-needs, without regard to race or religion, enabling them to
care for their children at home rather than having to place them in
an institution.
Keren Malki’s inventory of appliances
and equipment (wheel-chairs, standers, walkers and many others) are
loaned long-term to families with special-needs children at no
cost. Keren Malki subsidizes a range of paramedical therapies for
such children, supplementing the often very meager support of the
health funds and government.
Since it was founded, hundreds of
Israeli families have benefitted from its services. These are
families facing the greatest possible challenges.
Keren Malki was founded by former
Melburnians Frimet and Arnold Roth to perpetuate the memory of their
daughter Malka Chana (Malki)
A”H who was tragically killed in
the Sbarro restaurant bombing in 2001.
For full information about its
activities, we invite you to visit the Keren Malki website:

Selected testimonials
We asked some of our climbers what is
motivating them to undertake climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
Michael Gordon:
“I am an ENT surgeon and mohel, and
I organised the climb. I love the challenge of trekking and
being in the alpine environment. The experience Is invaluable
and helps me function better in normal life.”
Alan Lotzoff:
“Thanks for the opportunity to work
with the tzedakah project for Keren Malki. As the owner
of an importing distribution business, the idea of being out of
range for 6 days really grabbed me. But seriously, in life, I
always look for a challenge, beyond... and this is it. Bring it
on!! Hashem has a wonderful world, let's explore it!”
Robert Nossbaum:
"I am a property investor and
manager. Why am I doing the climb, I feel it is a great
challenge and Im Yirtze Hashem I hope to be able to complete it.
Also, we hope to be able to be recorded in the Guinness Book of
Records as the first minyan on Mt Kilimanjaro-there will be 13
of us doing the climb."
Mark Franks (Managing Director –
Aberdeen Paper):
“Looking forward to undertaking the
trek for sense of adventure and personal challenge. It’s one of
those once in a lifetime opportunities and experiences. Kol ha
kavod to you for your work with Keren Malki.”

Personal backing
You can give your very personal support
to the spirit behind the 2011 Mt Kilimanjaro Climb for Keren Malki by
sponsoring 10 meters climbed by a member of our team.
We would like
to recommend a $10 donation for each 10
meters climbed. There are 5,895 meters to climb, and another 5,895
to return to the base of the mountain! So there is plenty of scope
for each of us to make our contributions.
It would be fantastic if you would show
your support for the gutsy efforts of our climbers.
